Canada is big – so big that it can be difficult to work out how to see everything you want to see. But a well-planned short break will allow you to enjoy the best of the lakes, mountains, forests, waterfalls and vibrant cities that this land of adventure offers.  The thundering sound of torrents of raging water dramatically rushing over the spectacular Niagara Falls sending a misty spray high into the air, probably tops everyone’s list of unforgettable must-see-sights on a trip to Canada.

For your next short break, try combining a hip city break, incredible natural scenery and star gazing in Alberta's City of Edmonton and Jasper National Park.  The cool cultural city of Edmonton allows you to indulge in a vibrant food scene – dine at award-winning restaurants such as Corso 32, uncover some of the best Canadian cuisine such as the farm to table dishes offered at RGE RD, and sip on craft beers at Mercer Tavern, located in the new Ice District. Five miles out at sea and the water is still only one-metre deep, making it easy to hand-feed the magnificent, wild stingrays, prehistoric-looking creatures that glide up to you as you offer them a morsel of squid.

In the settled waters off the famous Seven Mile Beach lies the Kittiwake shipwreck, which was sunk to create an artificial reef in this spectacular marine park and is home to numerous species of coral and fish.  It is an awesome underwater playground for divers.

Africa's south coast is famous for shipwrecks, so much so that the bay of Arniston was never the original name of the bay until after the famous shipwreck in 1815, when an East Indiaman requisitioned to bring back wounded soldiers from what was then known as Ceylon.  The ship went down off the Cape Agulhas with the lost of all but six of her 378 passengers and crew.

Don't be fooled into thinking the Great Ocean Road is just a strip of tarmac. Not only is this 151 mile road the world's longest war memorial, it is the backbone of Victoria and has the added bonus of being one of the greatest drives on the planet.  The Great Ocean Road whips up a heady mix of natural wonders. Jaw-dropping sunsets, imposing cliffs, huge waves crashing against the points, Postcard picture villages, and elusive koala all feature in a day or two's drive.  The mixture of sea salt and gum trees even gives the road itw own unique smell.

Voted Best Island by readers of Cande Nast Traveller for 20 years, Maui has a wealth of great experiences as part of a Hawaiian holiday.  The group of Hawaiian Islands have a lot to offer but the island of Maui can stand on its own as a short break destination, where the temperature hovers around 26C all year.
